Lily and Lizard

We had a little green lizard hanging out on our porch this afternoon. Here he is on the window by the door.

When I was planting the garden this year we had a pot that I didn't know what it had had growing in it. So I dug it up, and found several rotted flower bulbs. I threw them all away except for one that I thought might still be alive. Turns out it was a pink lily. Very pretty.

Mini Rose

Just after Valentine's Day I bought some little tea roses that had been marked down. They were almost bloomed out and one of them about died on me, but I planted it in a larger pot and set it outside and it managed to come back with a vengeance and give me one little rose bloom. Is a beautiful pink-orange color.

This is our newest plant. It is a palm that came from Dads office. It is in pretty sad shape. It did not get enough light in the office. "He" has been dubbed Pontius "the palm" Pilate.

We found that the larger of the pots on our porch have been trapping water under them, and starting to rot out the wood. So we (by we I mean Mom did all the work) had to rearrange them and put racks under them to lift them off the wood. It has also made it much easer to water them and looks much nicer.

Yellow Tomatoes

These are the first tomatoes to come
out of our garden.


We are going to put them into a taco salad for diner tonight.

Tomatos and Peppers

Yah, we have baby peppers.

And lots of green tomatoes. To bad that they are still green. There is a big scare over some salmonella outbreaks that trace back to tomatoes, so all of the restaurants and stores are no longer selling some kinds of tomatoes and there not selling any sandwiches or anything with raw tomatoes on it.

Then we have some mixed salad greens that I just transplanted. Hopefully they will grow.

Basil

So this is the first basil harvest. Hopefully there will be another batch.
We have the before picture, and the after picture. Its a big difference huh. There is a big difference (and by that I mean for the better) in taste with garden grown herbs and store bought.

The Patio Garden

My family all like bell peppers, and we used to cook a good deal with them, but when we moved to Georgia (from Washington state) we found that the price of bell peppers had also moved... up.
In our new house we have a very nice patio out back, so Mom and I decided to plant a garden out there so we could grow our own peppers and tomatoes and anything else that would grow well in a pot or bucket.

You will have to forgive this mash of pictures, I have yet to figure out how to get them in here the way I want.

The first one that looks like and green spiky alien from the planet whosawhat is an onion that we found in the bin that had a good strong sprout on it that looked like it needed planting, and seems to be doing very well.

The little gray- green bush in the little blue-green pot is lavender.

Next there is the blue rubber maid which has sweet basil, one of my favorite herbs and parsley for my parakeets.

Then there is a bit of mint. It is growing very slowly but hopefully we will have enough to make some mint ice tea when the weather is really hot.

In the 10 gal white buckets are two pepper plants (left) a yellow pear tomato in the middle, then a patio style tomato on the right.
