Crafties

Being out of school for the summer I have plenty of time to work on my crafties. This is my latest finished project. I have been working off and on on it for over a year, maybe two, I don't remember. A few months ago I finally took it into the local yarn shop for help on figuring out how to start a row with a yarn over. I didn't think that was possible before and yet that is what the pattern called for. I have learned several useful techniques through this pattern.

Anyway, it is finally finished and I am very pleased with the results. This is probably the most complex knitting pattern that I have completed yet. The pattern was given to me by a friend as a high school graduation gift. I took a long time to find the right yarn for it. And I manage to guess just the right amount of yarn to get, six balls that I just barely used a bit from the last ball.

Other long hybernating crafts exposed to the light once more include this cross stitched icon. Unlike the above shawl I don't expect to finish it during this break but I am making some more progress.



In anticipation of my visit to Oregon this summer I found myself in need of a simple project to take with me. The cross stitch being much to cumbersome and attention requisit, and my other knitting projects to large and bulky (rugs) to take on the plane. I, of course, was forced to start a new project. Which you see quickly begining to take form here from a Knitty.com pattern. I do like many of their patterns.

The yarn for this pattern is a lovely blue mohair that my grandma got for me as a birthday present (last year?).

Birthday Gifts

So my birthday was a little short on gifts. Mostly because I had to work that week and there was just not time to take me shopping. So what I got was a bag of chocolate kisses and a check for $50.

This is what I spent the check on.
Most of the yarn was on the summer sale on Webs.

The orange bulky wool (looks red in the picture but its actually a burnt orange) I plan on trying my hand at a pair of felted slippers.

The Eden bamboo I was planing on making a couple of shrugs with, but I misjudged the amount of yarn in each ball. You can't do the same thing with 50 grams of bamboo that you can with 50 grams of lace weight wool.


I was given a pattern by a good friend of mine for a graduation gift and I have been looking for the perfect yarn to make it with. This is what I found, and I hope that I got enough. Hopefully if I have to get more it will be okay if I don't have the same dye lot because the yarn is already variegated.

Got Mail

So now that I have a job I can do a little bit of my own shopping for my addiction...um hobby.

I found this website that has some great deals on yarn. (They are having a big sale this weekend so I will be keeping a eye on it.)

This is what I ordered and it arrived today. The kidsilk night I got for $7.49 each and the Ella Rae classic wool was $2.99 each. (For those of you who read my blog and don't know any thing about yarn, that price is about 50% off. Kidsilk is a mix of kid mohair and silk.)

About half of the wool will go to make a pair of leg warmers, and the rest will most likely be matching gloves or scarf. At least one of the kidsilk will become a beaded cowl. Watch out for pictures of these.
